Hi! I'm Oliver Baptiste, a New York City-based interactive media professional, musician, educator & artist.
I have worked in the interactive media industry since 1998, employed at major corporations like Condé Nast, Sony and Time Inc.
I have done work for a number of clients, including Diane von Furstenberg and boutique agency FOUR32C.
This past year I developed and taught Multimedia Design and Web Design classes at New York City College of Technology, a CUNY school in downtown Brooklyn.
I received a B.A. in Studio Art with an Art History minor from William Paterson University in New Jersey, and a postgraduate diploma in Design for Interactive Media from Middlesex University's Lansdown Centre for Electronic Arts in London, UK.
I've played bass guitar in rock, hip-hop, electronica, soul jazz & reggae bands in New Jersey, London & NYC for over 15 years. I currently play with the Hard Times, a NYC reggae band, along with other projects out of Proud Land studios in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. At Proud Land we keep the glorious sound of analog alive via a crotchety TASCAM 38 ½-inch 8-track reel-to-reel recorder, vinyl, and shoeboxes of cassettes. I was recently raised to the peerage of Lord Olivier, Marquis de Baptiste
My current digital audio workstation setup is centered around Ableton Live 8 on a MacBook Pro.
I am an ASCAP-affliated songwriter and used to produce music under the alias Soundsurgeon on MySpace. I've retired that project and opened a Soundcloud page sans pseudonym.
I have experimented with sound art, collaborating with artist Meghan LeBorious on The Scar Project sound collage in 2000. It was exhibited at Art in General and other New York galleries.
I've been told I have "one of those voices". So, I have done a bit of voiceover work for RIOT Productions and Electric Funstuff. Perhaps I should do more?
